Transparent OLED Transcends Spatial Limits to Join aespa's Concert and KWANGYA@Seoul
The technological prowess of Transparent OLED is expanding into culture and entertainment. Transparent OLED reconstructs limited spaces and stretches them into infinity, effectively displaying various content on the screen. This time, by partnering with SM, LG Display introduces a brand-new execution of Transparent OLED in aespa’s concert and SM’s flagship store KWANGYA@Seoul.
At K-POP girl group aespa’s first concert, “SYNK: HYPER LINE,” held at Jamsil in February, ae-aespa were on the live stage for the first time. This concert showcased aespa’s identity and metaverse concept of “ae,” the four virtual members, joining their real-life counterparts to start a new adventure. In this performance, the Easter egg on stage was none other than the Transparent OLED display.
aespa is a metaverse group where the four members have their respective avatars. SM decided that Transparent OLED was the optimal solution to express this type of virtual universe as well as create a groundbreaking performance. Thus, for the first time ever, twelve Transparent OLEDs were installed on the stage with additional wheels attached to the bottom of the frames, creating a never-seen-before use of Transparent OLEDs. It was through Transparent OLEDs that ae-aespa could appear in the real world.
By reconstructing a limited stage and displaying the choreographed content, Transparent OLED realized K-POP’s pursuit of the infinite expansion of music and entertainment, enabling fans to experience the metaverse firsthand. As a result, SM has decided to utilize Transparent OLED in successive concerts in Japan and worldwide.
Last November, Transparent OLED made its appearance in SM Brand Marketing’s flagship store “KWANGYA@SEOUL” which opened in Seongsu-dong. The venue is a space where visitors can experience the IP content of SM Entertainment’s K-POP artists and where the infinitely expanding SM Culture Universe (SMCU) unfolds. SMCU’s KWANGYA represents an unlimited, unruled, amorphous space that’s infinitely expanding, making it spatially impossible to render in the real world. Therefore, a component was needed to be able to experience the metaverse in reality.
That component was none other than Transparent OLED, which was applied to the futuristic entertainment concept of KWANGYA. 33 Transparent OLED displays assembled on the floor, called “T-Floor Solution,” offers a new shopping experience by showcasing the albums and merchandise overlaid with holographic information and effects, effectively displaying the physical albums, artist information, and album introductions.
T-Floor Solution provides advertisement and information, maximizing space efficiency and promotion effects while being infinitely expandable to the desired size by connecting Transparent OLEDs like a checkerboard. Moreover, it generates less heat than LED panels, so it’s also suitable for indoor installation. In addition, specially tempered glass is applied to withstand the weight of visitors or installations.
The “Objet Showcase” that takes center stage combines a display stand, a Transparent OLED screen, and an OLED screen. Symbolizing “coexistence,” a new world that connects virtual reality and reality, this installation innovatively showcases various artists’ new albums or merchandise, heightening their promotional value by presenting product information and graphic effects via Transparent OLED. New titles are effectively promoted through moving volume bars, album information, logos, and other wide assortments of content.
KWANGYA@Seoul has become a space that offers a vision for the future entertainment in which K-POP fans can recreate new experiences and communicate with each other. Transparent OLED brought to life the single infinite space of the KWANGYA universe with no physical limitations and a shared timeline with the real world. Fans experiencing this space said, “The endlessly looping videos overlaid on the merchandise was so cool, I felt like I was in a spaceship,” adding, "I came for the merchandise but got to experience the amazing progress in technology as a bonus.”
Based on its infinite capacity to expand, Transparent OLED will continue to be actively applied to signage, architecture, mobility, digital art, and various other fields.
